Contemporary dance
Expressive and technical at the same time. Contemporary dance originated from modern dance but then evolved and incorporates everyday movements with ballet, jazz, gymnastics, modern dance, and sometimes even traditional folk dances and commercial dance forms. Ever evolving and very stylised. Floorwork and the weight of gravity in relation to the body is an integral component of contemporary dance. Dance technique drawing from modern dance (Graham, Limon, Horton, etc.), postmodern dance (release technique, Judson church era - Steve Paxton, Yvonne Rainer, Simone Forti, Trisha Brown), classical ballet, jazz dance, and even gymnastics really make this exciting dance style such a dynamic form to practice for all ages
