Classical ballet improves balance, mobility, stability, agility, flexibility, and musicality. Ballet technique is challenging and rewarding at the same time. Through repetition, practice, correction, attention to detail, and intense focus, ballet can be very grounding in a world of chaos. From plies and tendus at the barre to grande jetes in center. Each class starts at the barre regardless of level throughout the life of ballet dancer. A ballet dance class around the world is taught in this way as a progression to building simple steps into more complex steps. Background about Alaine: I have taught dance for 20+ years in Los Angeles, New York City, Singapore, Switzerland, Sweden, and guest workshops in Malta, Guangzhou, Houston. I have a Bachelors degree in dance from UCLA’s world arts & cultures department and have performed professionally as a modern dancer in Los Angeles and New York City. In 2008, I started my own dance company and we toured and performed at festivals in New York, New Jersey, Washington DC, Toronto, Singapore, and Edinburgh. I was the recipient of several grant for my choreography from Singapore International Foundation between 2010-2013. I currently teach at various studios and centers in Skåne. I was a competitive figure skater in my teens and rediscovered my love for the sport in 2021 in my late 30s. I am now an active member of adult figure skating club, Malmö Ice flyers and have started teaching dance to some members of the club this spring. I have previously taught dance to figure skaters and gymnasts in Skåne, Singapore, and Jakarta.
